With the 2010 release of Dedoose, that dilemma has become a thing of the past. Or you could opt to run the Mac version of HyperRESEARCH, a legacy qualitative research software package whose functionality left a lot to be desired.
You could clunkily try to run something like NVivo or Atlas.ti from within its own Windows partition, which really defeated the purpose of having a Mac in the first place (as well as cutting even further into your budget).
Until the launch of Dedoose, if you wanted to Mac-based qualitative research, you were out of luck.
